So I'm kinda new to this blogging thing, but it seems fun so here we go!
This past weekend we went to NYC. It was such a blast!! Let me just say, the subways are the warmest type of transportation. It was pretty much freezing outside, but when you get in that subway jam packed of people, you tend to warm up fast...LOL...We ate at our favorite restaurant, Mangia & Bevi. It is great! It has a great atmosphere and is a lot of fun. So if you ever travel up there, its on 53rd between 8th and 9th.
Our journey began in Long Island. Southwest doesn't fly to Laguardia or Kennedy so the closest place was Long Island. The people there aren't like the people in TX.... Actually, they are just plain rude...Now New Yorkers are usually nice, but i guess we just hit all of them on an off day...We stayed at the La Quinta there and unfortunately for us there was NOT a Denny's next door...bummer...The next morning we caught a train at the Ronkonkoma station. I've never taken a train anywhere so I was surprised that we made soooo many stops! It was a short ride, just about an hour and fifteen minutes. Also to my surprise, trains don't have shocks so you are basically thrown all over the place. It was an adventure.
At about 9:30 the train stopped at Penn Station in Manhattan...WOOHOO...we love the city. We felt like we were there when we were approached by a homeless and they asked for money...gosh i just love it there...lol... So we grabbed a cab to our first hotel for the NYC weekend (kyle had points so we stayed free at different hotel every night...ha ha) We stayed at the Courtyard on 53rd between 2nd and 3rd..It was lovely and had a subway right beside it so it made transportation easy. As soon as we dropped off our bags, we went and ate at Tom's Restaurant, yes the famous one in Seinfield. It had awesome food and it was super busy. Next we took the subway to Greenwich Village, one of my favorite parts of NY. Greenwich is the music/artsy part of the city. You see talented people just playing their guitar on stoops and it is soooo cool...Not many places can you set on your porch and get discovered...We always go to this one guitar store called Matt Umanov Guitars. It's a really cool store. They have a lot of classic guitars that have a lot of history behind them. There is a fantastic bakery in the village also. It's called Magnolia's and it's famous for amazingly wonderful cupcakes. It was in a movie, but I forget which one....I personally love the "magic bars" they are basically heaven in your mouth!
From Greenwich, we took the subway to the famous Canal St., aka Chinatown.....It was truly insane! So many people crammed into one block. All you hear the whole time is "you like handbag miss, prada, chanel, gucci, coach"...ha ha ha!!! You go into small little shacks and look at purses, knock off watches and jewelry...When you make it inside they ask you again if you like handbags and then bust out this random door and drag you in there. It's a surreal experience...I love it! LOL... Canal St. is one of my favorite parts of NYC...After spending many hours on that one street, we took the subway back to midtown. We changed and went to our favorite restaurant, Mangia & Bevi. Finding a cab on valentines was nuts...I think it took us about 45 minutes...
The next day we went to Rockafeller Center, and went to 5th avenue. We also went back to Canal St. just to make sure we didn't miss anything...6 purses, 7 watches and 3 pairs of sunglasses later, we made it back to our hotel...We stayed at the Crowne Plaza that night. That hotel is fantastic! I think the sheets were like 1000 thread count and starched...ha ha ha ... That night we went to TAO, this really cool hotspot in NYC...It's chinese food, and so great! I cooked my Filet Mignon at the table on this fire thingy...( i know vague description)
The next morning was our departure day...It started out early! 4:00 am, 3:00 am Texas time....we hopped on a train back to Long Island at 4:45 am, and got there at about 6:15am. Then we waited for a taxi for about 30 minutes in the freezing cold. Off to the airport we went and hopped on a flight to Baltimore. We had a 2 hour lay over in Baltimore...I slept the whole layover while Kyle wandered around and got a massage...Next flight was to Little Rock and then to Dallas...We were exhausted!!!
so that was our glamorous weekend in NYC...oh yeah it was fashion week also..We try to go there at least once a year. We would love to live there, but the cost of living is out of this world.
